 ~DANA~

Dana is the ancient Buddhist practice of giving and receiving. Monks and lay trainees together sustain the Temple through their practice and are generous with all they have to give. Pine Mountain Temple has no source of income other than the offerings of our supporters. It is traditional to make an offering of money when visiting the Temple, staying overnight, or attending a Dharma talk or group meeting.

Our daily costs in operating the Temple average about $150. A suggested donation for a visit to the Temple is $20. Please help us to continue our work of practicing and passing on the Teaching of the Buddha.

IN GRATITUDE

"May the offerings we make here show our gratitude and joy to all living things." (offertory from Morning Service).

A well as generous donations of food and drink the monks received hospitality and transportation, the use of a house for rest time, eight boxes of books, tools and hardware, curtains and fixtures, medicine, paper goods, candles, a waffle maker, a computer tower, clothing, office supplies, silk flowers, fabric, a beautiful sari, help with advertising, maintenance and backhoe work, stamps, CD’s and jewel cases, small statues, hand cream, bird seed, cat and dog food and treats and cat food and water dispensers.

   THE BEGGING BOWL

The temple can use potting soil, bird seed, dish washing liquid, laundry softener, paper napkins, first class stamps, and ultra fine point Sharpies.

Building A Temple

Both material and spiritual offerings are necessary for the building of a temple, and we are grateful for the support we are given in all ways.

As the temple is growing, we have two current building projects and two more we anticipate undertaking in the future.  Construction of our Stupa and the building of a Sanzen & Private Study Room, will incur costs in the area of $5,000—$10,000 during 2008.  Within the next five years, we are hoping to build an Abbot’s House with an estimated cost of $40,000.  Eventually we also wish to build a Buddha Hall, estimated for now at $350,000.

For this reason we have created an ongoing BUILDING FUND, donations for which are tax deductible.  We invite you to help us build this temple, thereby increasing your blessings and wisdom.  We dedicate the merit of our meditation and training to all living things.
