Getting to the Temple

Pine Mountain Buddhist Temple is located in a remote corner of Ventura County, California. Getting to the Temple requires driving; there is no public transportation in the area. The nearest towns are Ojai, Frazier Park and Maricopa.

From the West:  Driving south on Highway 101, turn off just north of Santa Maria onto State Hwy 166, heading towards New Cuyama and Maricopa. After 62 miles, turn right on State Hwy 33, heading south towards Ojai. Drive 20 miles, turn left on Lockwood Valley Road. The Temple is 3 miles on the left. Look for our wooden sign and mailbox.

From the North: From I-5, take the State Hwy 166, heading towards New Cuyama and Maricopa. From Maricopa, go 14 miles west on Highways 166 and 33, which join for those 14 miles, then turn left towards Ojai. Drive 20 miles and turn left on Lockwood Valley Road. The Temple is 3 miles on the left. Look for our wooden sign and mailbox.

From the South: Take State Hwy 33 north through Ojai and continue into the mountains. It is 37 miles from Ojai to the Lockwood Valley Road turn-off. Crossing over Pine Mountain, Hwy 33 reaches an altitude of 5160 feet; in winter there can be snow going over the summit. Turn right on Lockwood Valley Road, drive 3 miles, and look for the Temple on the left.

From the East: The most direct route from L.A. to Pine Mountain Temple is via I-5 to the Frazier Park exit. Drive west past Frazier Park 3 miles to Lake of the Woods, then turn left on Lockwood Valley Road at the T intersection. From here it is about 25 miles to the Temple. Lockwood Valley Road reaches an altitude of 5200 feet; in winter there can be snow. Look for the Temple on the right, a half-mile past the Camp Scheideck sign.
